Overview
The West Khasi Hills do not often give a summit that frames the entire geography of northeast India from a single standing position. Mawthadraishan does. The peak sits at approximately 1,900 metres in the Eastern West Khasi Hills and on a clear morning the view runs without obstruction in every direction – the Himalayas to the north, the Garo Hills to the west, the Khasi plateau to the east and Bangladesh to the south. There is no other point in Meghalaya from which those four landmarks sit within the same unobstructed frame. The mawthadraishan peak trek is the approach to that position.
Bon handles the vehicle from Guwahati Airport or Railway Station with Shillong as Night 1 and two nights at a village homestay near the Mawthadraishan base for Nights 2 and 3. Day 3 is the full summit day with the Mawphanlur hilltop ponds extension available for groups with the legs for a 7 to 8 hour circuit. Day 4 returns to Shillong with Umiam Lake on the highway before the final night. Daily breakfast on CP basis throughout. Guide charges at the Nongshillong trailhead are paid locally on Day 3.

The mawthadraishan peak trek starts at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station with the 100-kilometre drive west through the Brahmaputra plains and into the East Khasi Hills. The road climbs through Nongpoh and arrives in Shillong at 1,496 metres in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
Tonight is the last city night before two nights in a West Khasi Hills village with no resort infrastructure. A proper meal, an early rest and an alarm set before 5am tomorrow are the correct uses of what Shillong offers on the first evening of this trip.
The mawthadraishan peak trek drives southwest from Shillong on the Nongstoin highway and turns off at Nongshillong village where a 4-kilometre approach road enters the West Khasi Hills base terrain below the peak. The drive from Shillong takes approximately 2 hours to this point.
The village homestay sits in forest below the summit. The afternoon at base is the correct way to arrive before the summit day tomorrow - reading the hillside, noting the trail conditions and letting the altitude register before demanding anything from it.
The group leaves the homestay before 5am for the mawthadraishan peak trek ascent. The trail from Nongshillong moves through forest before opening above the tree line toward the summit at approximately 1,900 metres.
The top gives the four-direction view the peak is known for on a clear morning - Himalayas to the north, Garo Hills to the west, Khasi plateau to the east, Bangladesh to the south - four entirely different landscapes from a single standing position. The trail extends from the summit toward the Mawphanlur hilltop ponds for groups with the energy. The full circuit runs approximately 7 to 8 hours.
Morning at the village before checkout and the drive northeast returns the mawthadraishan peak trek group to Shillong on the Nongstoin highway. Umiam Lake sits on the approach road 15 kilometres before the city - the afternoon stop here gives the reservoir at full breadth with the Khasi Hills on both banks.
A different relationship with elevation after two nights in the hills and a summit morning. Ward's Lake boating and the Police Bazaar evening music circuit close the final Shillong night before the return to Guwahati tomorrow.
Morning checkout after breakfast and the drive from Shillong to Guwahati Airport or Railway Station covers 100 kilometres down through Nongpoh and across the Brahmaputra plains, approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. The mawthadraishan peak trek closes here.
Afternoon and evening departures are comfortably in reach. Groups with morning flights or trains should flag timing with the Bon team at booking so the Shillong checkout can be structured with enough buffer.

Best Time to Visit
Meghalaya stays cool year-round. Shillong enjoys pleasant weather (15°C–25°C), while Cherrapunji and Mawsynram receive heavy monsoons (June–September), creating dramatic waterfalls. Winters (October–February) are crisp and dry (4°C–16°C), perfect for exploring living root bridges, crystal-clear Dawki river, and limestone caves. October to April is the best time for sightseeing, trekking, and clear valley views.
