Overview
KolahoiΒ is the largest glacier in the Kashmir Valley β a body of ice descending from the Kolahoi peak at approximately 5,425 metres through the upper Lidder catchment above Pahalgam. The glacier feeds the Lidder River that runs through the Pahalgam bazaar 25 kilometres below, which means every visitor who has sat beside that river has been drinking the melt of this ice without knowing the source. The approach to the glacier lower zone follows the Lidder Valley through Aru village and Lidderwat meadow β a two-day walk from the Pahalgam base that most Kashmir visitors never make because the single-night Pahalgam stop in the standard circuit does not allow it. This kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package builds the time required into the structure β two nights above the vehicle base, the glacier approach as the reason for the trip.
BonΒ Voyagers handles the pickup from Srinagar Airport and covers five nights with a private Innova, Xylo or Scorpio class vehicle throughout. Night 1 is in Srinagar. Night 2 is at Pahalgam. Night 3 is at Aru Village guest house β the trailhead settlement 12 kilometres from Pahalgam. Night 4 is at Lidderwat meadow camp at approximately 3,175 metres. Day 5 returns from Lidderwat through Aru to Pahalgam for the overnight. Day 6 returns to Srinagar Airport. A certified local guide is required from Aru Village onward. Daily breakfast and dinner on MAP basis throughout.
Day-wise Itinerary
6-day travel plan β tap any day to view full details.
The kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package begins at Srinagar Airport where the Bon Voyagers vehicle is waiting. The first night stays in Srinagar β the drive to Pahalgam on Day 2 and the trailhead at Aru Village on Day 3 both benefit from a rested start before the walking days begin. The Srinagar afternoon covers the Dal Lake Shikara ride, the Mughal Gardens and the Hazratbal Shrine.
Use the Day 1 evening to pack trail gear properly β waterproof boots, warm layers, a sleeping bag suitable for temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius at Lidderwat and a minimum three litres of water carrying capacity per person. Overnight in Srinagar.
The drive southeast from Srinagar to Pahalgam covers approximately 96 kilometres through the Jhelum and Lidder valleys, taking around 2 to 2.5 hours. Pahalgam at approximately 2,130 metres on the Lidder River is the overnight base before the trail begins on Day 3.
The afternoon is for the Lidder riverbank and an early rest β the Day 3 drive to Aru and the subsequent walking requires energy from the morning. The Pahalgam evening is also the last point of reliable ATM access and full mobile network before the trail zone. A certified local guide for the Aru to Lidderwat to glacier approach should be confirmed through the Bon team before this kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package departs. Overnight at Pahalgam.
The drive from Pahalgam to Aru Village covers approximately 12 kilometres on a road that ends at the village edge, taking around 30 to 40 minutes. Aru at approximately 2,400 metres is the last settlement with guest house accommodation before the open trail β a small pastoral village where the Aru stream meets the wider Lidder valley system and where the trekking groups that do the Kolahoi circuit typically stage their Day 1 camp.
The afternoon of this kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package is for the Aru to Lidderwat lower trail section β a walk of approximately 5 to 6 kilometres through open meadow that covers the first third of the Day 4 route as a warm-up and a read of the terrain above. Overnight at Aru Village guest house.
Day 4 is the deepest point of this kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package. The walk from Aru to Lidderwat meadow at approximately 3,175 metres covers approximately 8 kilometres with approximately 775 metres of elevation gain β a 3 to 4 hour ascent through the upper Lidder valley where the vegetation thins from forest to open alpine meadow as the elevation increases.
Lidderwat is a wide flat meadow at the head of the valley below the glacier zone β a traditional shepherd camp in summer that trekking groups use as the Kolahoi base overnight. The glacier snout of Kolahoi is approximately 2 to 3 kilometres above Lidderwat on the upper approach β visible from the meadow camp and reachable in the morning hours before the return walk begins. Overnight at Lidderwat meadow camp.
The Lidderwat morning gives this kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package its final high-altitude hour β the meadow at approximately 3,175 metres before the descent, the Kolahoi peak above and the glacier visible on the upper face. The walk from Lidderwat back to Aru covers approximately 8 kilometres in around 2.5 to 3 hours on the descent.
The vehicle picks up at Aru Village for the drive back to Pahalgam. The Pahalgam overnight gives the group a proper hotel rest after two nights above 2,400 metres β the river, the warm room and the Pahalgam bazaar in the evening carry a specific relief that the meadow camp makes sharply welcome. Overnight at Pahalgam.
The final morning of the kolahoi glacier kashmir tour package is in Pahalgam before the drive northwest to Srinagar Airport. The Pahalgam to Srinagar drive covers approximately 96 kilometres in around 2 to 2.5 hours. Groups with afternoon or evening departures have the Srinagar morning for a final stop at Lal Chowk for saffron, dry fruit or Kashmiri craft before the airport drop.
For a group returning from Lidderwat the Srinagar city level carries the specific reentry quality that two nights above 3,000 metres earns β the traffic and the heat and the mobile network all feel different from the meadow side. The Bon Voyagers vehicle drops at Srinagar Airport for the return flight.

Best Time to Visit
The trail from Aru to Lidderwat is open from approximately June through September. July and August give the warmest temperatures at camp level and the most reliable trail conditions. June gives a quieter trail with last snow visible on the lower approach slopes. September gives autumn colour on the lower meadow sections and the lightest footfall of the summer season. The glacier retreat is most clearly visible from Lidderwat in September when summer melt has exposed the maximum rock margin below the current ice edge.
